My New Brighton home is about 20 years old. Should I repair or replace the garage door?
It depends on the door’s condition. If the panels are solid and only a part has failed, a repair and tune-up can add several good years. If panels are cracked or rusted, or repairs keep adding up, replacement is often the better value. We inspect the door and give you an honest recommendation with no pressure.
How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?
Signs include a loud bang, a door that suddenly feels very heavy, a door that only lifts a few inches, or a visible gap in the spring coil. If you notice any of these, stop using the door and call for a repair.
How do I know if my garage door opener needs replacement?
Consider replacement if the opener is more than about fifteen years old, runs loudly, lacks safety sensors, or keeps failing. Many original New Brighton openers are now at that stage. A newer opener with one fault is usually worth repairing instead.
Is it safe to use a garage door with a broken spring?
No. The door is much heavier than it looks with a broken spring and can drop suddenly, and forcing it strains the opener and tracks. Leave the door down and book a technician.
How often should a garage door be serviced?
About once a year, and it is especially worthwhile for the twenty-year-old doors common in New Brighton. A tune-up includes lubrication, a balance check, and a safety inspection, ideally before winter.
Can you replace just one damaged panel?
Often yes, if the rest of the door is in good shape and a matching panel is available. On older doors, the exact panel is sometimes discontinued, in which case replacement may be the better option. We will check and advise.
